If you have the determination to accomplish a goal, then nothing can stop you.

Madison,

You’ve really got nothing to worry about. From what I understand, most universities are really looking for the big picture these days. You’ve got a lot going for you. One bad test isn’t going to sink your chances at success. What would you say if you saw your transcripts? The bottom line is, there is a lot more to a successful person than a test score. You know how to talk to people. Your personality will take you really far. But besides that you’ve got a great GPA, and more extra-curricular activities than anyone I know! Make sure and explore your options. Every college is different, and they all look for something different. You have the drive and determination. Use it wisely and you’ll go far!

Dear Madison,
Do not worry about your intelligence level. Nobody is dumb, and the only person who is dumb is the person who thinks that his or her self is dumb. On the contrary, remember how many great things and activities you have done in your life. You have reached out to people, you have been and will always be a great learner, this is only another lesson in life.
This obstacle requires you to believe in yourself. Place yourself in the shoes of the person or people who made the test and you will see that you can and should conquer it if you believe in yourself and all the hard work you have done will not go to waste.
Sincerely,
Rene

I understand you are upset with recent test-scores. I need to share with you my biggest fear. I was/am afraid that I was not smart, never be smart, and felt awkward sharing opinions, fearing people would realize I was ignorant. Not until I shared this with people I trusted did I begin to believe that I was not dumb. In fact I believe now that I am not only smart but also witty. I hear people talk about how smart they think I am. I think they are sarcastic. But then I realize these people don’t know my self-doubting secret.

Madison, determination and perseverance are the key to a successful education, and education in turn leads to a successful life. Without the fortitude of determination and perseverance, great people like Albert Einstein would never be known in history. Einstein himself was considered to be slow and did not achieve his distinction until much later in life. Much like the budding of a spring flower, growth comes with time.

I would tell her to focus and apply herself. I would remind her of all she does well and that if she works hard she can achieve her goals. Madison must know that by giving up and becoming less confident, she is only proving the tests right and that tests are not always an accurate method of measuring one’s intelligence. Madison can learn from this experience, instead of letting it beat her she can grow from it.

Madison,
I am sorry about your scores. I know you and know how smart you are. I am positive you were nervous. Don’t let this one set of test scores ruin your self image. I would march back into the admissions office and ask to retake the test. This reminds me of when I was younger and fell off my bike for the first time, did I quit trying? No. Did it make me more determined? Yes. You are a smart individual who is going to make it in this world! Go retake the test, you can do it!

Madison,

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. You are a very intelligent individual, but you need to focus your intelligence to meet your goals. I know it can be hard to focus at times. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t pick out your goals and use your intelligence to meet them. Think of what you’ve accomplished so far and where you want to be, and then use those visions to motivate yourself toward meeting your goals.

Your motivation drives you more than test scores.

Hey Madison,
I know you’re bummmed about your test scores, but I wouldn’t let that get you down. I mean, they allow for these kinds of things that’s why they let you take it so many times. People learn and remember things in a different way. The formalized testing may not be the best way to reflect what you really are capable of. I would just keep on working the way you have been. If you really want to boost your test scores then maybe take some classes that help you look at things the way the test approaches them. Test scores aren’t everything.

Hey Madison,

You shouldn’t be doubtful let me tell you why, for all you know they could have accidently switched names and tests because you know how those stupid IQ test and college admissions tests are. There are so many people taking them that it is easy to mess something up. Not only that, but your grades are proof in themselves that you are a very smart and successful person. I would definitely not let this discourage you. You shouldn’t let something little like this stop you from being ambitious and confident. Lets go talk to a counselor at school to see what they have to see.

I have known you all of your life, and ever since the day I met you your intelligence and compassion for life have helped me through numerous obstacles. You are one of the smartest people I know. These tests only measure certain aspects of education. That score could never reflect the world of things that are in your head. Just keep pushing, you will get everything you have ever desired in life.

Don’t let anyone look down you, there’s a lot more inside than they may ever know.

You also write so well, those stories you have written for class have been amazing. From our talks, I know that you have some great goals that you want to achieve and I believe that you can. God tells us that we can do all things through Him who gives us strength. And I know that He has given you His mind, He’s the one who has given you all those ideas and goals. Don’t let a test slow you down. Keep dreaming, keep believing. Never give up, there’s so much more yet to learn.

Hey Madison!
I just received your email about your college admissions test scores. I realize they’re a little lower than you had hoped for, but please don’t let this discourage you from furthering your education. College admision tests are only one thing schools look at. When they look at your GPA and read your essay, I know they’ll see what I see: a smart and talented girl who they would be lucky to have at their college.
Not only are you academically smart, but you have the heart and ambition that it takes to be a truly good student. I’ve never met anyone as determined as you, and I have no doubt that you will make it to where you want to go. I really hope you don’t let just one test score ruin your college dreams. You are way too smart to let that happen. Besides, who else would I room with in the dorms?
Let me know if you need to talk more about this, I’m always here for you.

Hey Madison,
I know you’re at a difficult stage in your life right now. It seems that nothing is occuring in your favor. Teachers and other people make it seem easy to get into a good college, but in fact it’s hard. Just because you got low test scores doesn’t mean that you are a bad student. Possibly you have a weakness for standardized test taking. I had considerable difficulty aquiring acceptable test scores to be admitted to the university of my choice. My suggestions to you are to retake the tests you did poorly on. However, you should probably take a course that will prepare you greatly for taking college entrance exams. Your grades are wonderful and words fall out of your pen that could make your mother cry. You’re a wonderful person quite capable of obtaining acceptable college entrance scores. Any college would be lucky to have you. Remember I am always here for you.

Despite the media’s portrayal that we have to fit into a tiny package in order to be successful, this is a myth. Test scores are a report of how we respond to what some people think. Few people think like the creators of College Entrance Exams. That’s why a miniscule percentage can ace them. Just because you can’t memorize what the test-makers want, doesn’t mean you can’t go far. College isn’t the only way. By standing up for yourself, having confidence, and being productive, you can make a difference in your career, family, children, friends, community, or even the world!

Madison,

It is understandable that you’ve become discouraged. Our society places a great deal of importance on “scores” and “testing.” To the people who administer these tests, these numbers signify your academic savvy, and ambition. You and I know how intelligent and ambitious you are, Madison, and you know the force of your own will, you must simply strive to educate these individuals as to your intention to excel. You can do that by making the decision to prevail now, and abiding by it against any adversity. For if you do, all seemingly insurmountable obstacles will fall away, out of your path, and your decision will become realized.

My family is poor, but I demonstrated artistic ability at an early age. I had always hoped I would go to an art school for college, but this seemed like nothing more than a fond hope, given current tuition costs. But I decided that I would go to the best college I could, at any cost, and denied the myriad nay-saying voices that told me I could not, I didn’t have the money, I should just go to a community school. Now I happily attend what many regard to be the premiere art school in America. Talent aside, I achieved my goal through sheer initiative, and so can you, and so can anyone, if they just make the simple decision to succeed. Your scores will reflect it instantly.

When your heart speaks, listen.

Madison,

If you took an aptitude test and it told you to become a farmer, would you? Of course not. No one should listen solely to what a piece of paper tells them. IQ tests measure only certain aspects of intelligence and are not always accurate. I was terrified taking my college admissions test, nerves affect performance, it happens all the time. You know in your heart that you are smart, never let anyone tell you otherwise. You have ambition and that is truly the goal to success. The smartest person in the world, without ambition and diligence, goes nowhere.

Although your current feelings may dampen motivation, I guarantee that a great person such as yourself has an endless amount of opportunities for success in the future. Dear Madison,
If Albert Einstein believed that his dyslexia and low-test scores determined the range of his intelligence and ability to make a difference in the world, the world would have been void of one of the greatest human minds that ever existed. A low Intelligence test score should not be taken as a definitive mirror of one’s capabilities. Knowledge accumulates as one grows, so it is essential that one continues to expand the network. The human mind knows no boundaries, and one should not allow one standardized test to damper the future. The mind is one tool that certainly has accompanied every success story. There are people such as Einstein who failed tests, but managed to produce great achievements either way. The will power to advance has to be present in order for the mind to function at its best.

I understand that you may feel discouraged about the results of your testings, but no longer should you be. I’ve spent hours, myself, pondering my “loss of knowledge", to a certain extent, but have never really managed to come to a possible explanation. Instead, I now recognize my week points and try harder to succeed. As a result, I’ve found a new sense of confidence in my work and self-esteem. I believe that if you truly want to be successful, all you really have to do is overcome your grief of previous experiences and show what you are really made of.

Dear Madison,
I know that a low test score can be discouraging. Believe me, I’ve been disappointed in my test results many times in the past. However, there are a number of factors that could have influenced your performance on that particular day. Maybe you were unprepared or simply nervous about the idea of test taking. Test anxiety plays a tremendous part when otherwise intelligent people score below their potential.
Next time try to prepare yourself a little more thoroughly and I’m sure you will be pleased with your results. You are a very bright individual and will do fine.

Hey Madison, we all have days where “Brain Blocks” just happens. What I find that helps me, daily positive affirmations such as, “I will do well on my test.” When self-doubt starts to trickle in, immediately defuse this by confirming to yourself what you know “to be” instead of the person you know you are not. Reflect on all the achievements, accomplishments and what has gotten you here.
You will be amazed how powerful positive thoughts bring positive resultes. Determination! What the mind of a person can conceive and believe, will achieve!

Please don’t let this get you down and ruin the hard work you have put in. Things will be fine, your true potential will shine through!

No matter what the outcome, everything that we face is a learning experience and can only make us stronger. A few tests on paper mean nothing against a lifetime of experience and wisdom. The true failure is giving up on yourself or giving into self doubt. Confidence in yourself and a passion to strive for what you want can take you anywhere in life.

A test is just a test, you know what knowledge you have stored inside that brain of yours!! You were always there to help me when I struggled through Algebra, Geometry, Government, etc!! You are so smart and will make a WONDERFUL teacher. You have so much to offer. Look at how many elementary students you have helped through your Service Learning Class. Many of them have gotten better reading grades because of you. You are such an inspiration to so many people, myself included. I bet if you enrolled in one of the ACT or SAT Prep seminars, it would help out tremendously! I think you just need to learn how to prepare for the test. You have the knowledge, you just didn’t have a good testing. They can help you from being so stressed and teach you how to pace yourself to have a successful test. I don’t think an IQ test can really tell you that you are smart. You were probably just having a bad day. Remember, when I got that really bad grade on my history final. It was because I was having a bad day and I couldn’t concentrate. I think you should continue what you have planned regardless of what some test said.

Everything that a person needs to be successful is already inside them. An IQ test proves nothing! What if you would have scored high on the test? Does that make you smarter? No (taking the test didn’t teach you anything) Does it make you a more driven person? Does it make you want to be successful any more than you already were? Of course not. The only thing it gives you is a false confidence that you should already have. Forget stupid tests and start focusing on what is really important. The most vital thing in any kind of career as well as in life in general is understanding that there’s a part inside you that doesn’t care what anyone says because it has the ability to do ANYTHING. That little part inside you wants you to believe in it and let it show you that it has the power to overcome anything. That little part inside you is all anyone needs. And what you will soon find out is that that little part inside you is the true YOU believing in yourself.

I would encourage Madison to continue doing her best and working hard even though she thinks her test scores are low. Colleges do not only single out test scores in their evaluation of college applicants. Colleges look at grades as well as extracurricular activities. If Madison continues to work hard, she will be able to “wow” the college board. And she could even start out at a smaller technical college, do her best and then transfer to a bigger university. She is obviously very intelligent and has the capability to do anything she sets her mind too.

No single measurement of your intelligence, be it SAT score, GPA, IQ test, or the evaluation of a friend, can provide a whole picture. Believe in yourself, not in your test score. Consider your entire performance and your entire being: you are an intelligent person and you need only believe in that. Edgar Allan Poe said, “Convinced myself, I seek not to convince.” Follow his example and believe in yourself rather than striving to make others believe in you. Confidence is more valuable than intelligence, because you can always educate yourself, but without being sure of your knowledge, you cannot use it.

First and foremost, you need to know that low test scores are not the end of the world. Both the IQ test and standardized test scores are not marks of knowledge. Remember, it is not what college you go to, but what you choose to do with the information itself. Many smart and successful people have not received the highest marks or attained the highest IQ rating; yet consider themselves to be successful and quite knowledgeable. Remember, these tests just test just only a small portion of the knowledge that you receive and will receive throughout your lifetime. Good Luck.

I am just saying that you just need to study more, and keep trying, don’t ever give up. The SAT and ACT are not really that hard if you just pace yourself. Don’t stress about studying because that will not help you at all. Madison you have to really sit down and think where do you want to be in the future? What goal do you want to accomplish? If you do that and just focus on what you want to do you can do it. I hope my advice helps you in the near future. Remember you can do anything you set your mind to.

You know that you are a very intelligent and ambitious individual. Sometimes people get freaked out by the thought of a test or exam and they tend to not perform as well as their potential should allow. This does not mean that you should give up. It just simply means that you should try again. Also with regards to the IQ score, I hope that you realize that a lot of the time those scores aren’t even representative of one’s actual intelligence. It is simply a statistical reading, so I definitely would not worry about that one too much.

An IQ test and a college admissions test only test your test-taking abilities, and not really your academic intelligence. Did those two tests have questions on all that you’ve learned throughout your whole life? No way! Therefore, there might be some subjects you excel at, and others that you do mediocre on. Not to worry, though, because everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Do you think Tom Cruise, one of the most influential actors in Hollywood, was good at everything? Not at all! He didn’t even graduate from high school! That is not to say you shouldn’t go on in school, because education is important, but just know that no one is perfect and that you just have to find your niche at what you do best.

Test scores are usually designed to measure a person’s current intelligence, but tests of this kind don’t take into account our ability to learn. The most interesting thing about our minds is that there are 250,000 new neurons created per minute. What this means is that each neuron makes a connection to another neuron when we are exposed to a new experience or things that we learn in greater depth. I would tell Madison that some people just don’t test well. Despite her low test scores she is still a smart and successful person. I can relate to this one because I didn’t score well on my entrance exams, yet I am one of the smartest and successful people in my working career. I did go on to community college and will be completing my BA at a University level. There are other ways around having a low test score. You can do anything by being a smart and successful person. You are the one who will make it, not the scores.

Hey Madison,
You mentioned to me last week that your IQ and ACT test scores didn’t turn out so hot. Don’t be discouraged. These are just standardized tests that are administered for quick assessments. Quick is the key word here. You’ve been my friend for how long now? I definitely know that you are not an idiot. Check out your grades at school, they’re awesome. You write great essays, and conversations with you are never a bore. Don’t let simple numbers determined within a few hours set your path. Just continue to be yourself and let your innerself shine. People will be able to see for themselves, (not through test scores) that you have what it takes to be successful. Hey, just be yourself, Ok?

How have you been? I hope that you are not letting the results of your tests get you down. I also found that those tests were very difficult to take and understand. They just give admissions an idea of the classes you might take and the level you are at. You are very intelligent and have given me advice in many situations. My advice to you is to put this aside and look forward to continuing your education in college and show everyone how smart you really are. Go after your dreams. Take care.

Dear Madison,
I am very sorry to hear about your recent test scores. You should not worry about the scores; they are only standardized tests. Some people do not succeed when it comes to taking tests. You are a very smart girl and you possess many wonderful skills that are needed for life. You succeed in school and you never give up on anything. Some people may be able to answer questions on a test well, but they may lack the amount of ambition that you possess. I encourage you to retake the test, maybe next time your scores will be higher, but if not, just remember that the scores are not the things that matter in life. What really matters is your positive attitude towards life the skills that you teach to other people and the person that you have become. You are a helpful person and a wonderful friend.
Better luck next time,

Sometimes people are not good test takers. This has nothing to do with your ability or with how smart you are. Tests are nerve-racking and scary, many people bomb the first time around. Don’t let that discourage you. You’re intelligent and quick-witted. All you have to do is relax and try again. Maybe try a practice test before you take another major test, just to get used to how they feel. Sometimes the pressure to succeed causes people to panic and then their mind goes blank. It happens to everyone at one time or another.

The tests don’t measure your smartness. Keep your head up and press on.

Just keep trying and look around at some other colleges in the meantime. I will be here if you need to talk to someone. Just remember, you are smart and you’ll make it no matter what.

Even though test scores can be an indicator of how a person will do in college, it is not the only factor that determines success. Studies have shown that test anxiety has a lot to do with how well some people’s potential will reflect on paper. If a person is ambitious and motivated to do well, that is 90% of success already. I had a sister who scored a 14 on the ACT and then an 11 the second time. The college let her in on a probationary basis and she made the deans list several semesters in a row.

Madison, college is more than classes, grades, and especially an IQ score. I know that there can be a lot of pressure to do perfect at times, and also, sometimes people expect your undivided attention towards a particular subject. However, college is about learning how to deal with the stress, finding and teaching methods to get by with four, five, or six years of classes. Ambition is an admirable quality and not worth giving up for a couple of numbers. No matter where you go or end up, college is about the process of doing it all: making friends, making decisions, and changing yourself into a whole new person, an adult. Don’t give up, take your time, and enjoy yourself while you are young. Take care and good luck!

Madison don’t worry about some test scores, maybe you just are not good at standardized tests. I know that you are really smart and if you get good grades now you will most likely continue to get them. There are thousands of people that do badly on their college admission test but still do really well in college. IQ scores are not even used anymore. Plus an IQ score does not say how smart you are but rather how smart you would be if you did not put any effort into it. I have seen your grades you put hard work into your education a low IQ is no reason to stop. IQ is like a rubberband even if it starts out small it can be stretched. You will never know how far you can go unless you try. Two tests are no reason to give up on your future. They should make you more determined to prove them wrong. Otherwise you are just admitting defeat and you can never win if you have already given up.

Don’t be discouraged. Think about your scores this way. Intelligence is something difficult to measure. Remember our High-School Chemistry classes? Tests are like those chemistry labs; one small change in the environment and your results are skewed. You can either base your self-worth on an assessment that is fallible or you can choose to be motivated by what you know to be true: you are intelligent and have proven yourself in the past. Don’t base the experiment on one variable. Choose to look at past results. Then the present will be more focused. Keep pressing on

I heard something!!!! (it better be a rumor) that you are “less confident” because of those results. You are the most ambitious person I know, and everybody around you notices. Tests can’t tell you how smart you are, or how far you will go. Like that new movie, there is no “perfect score” to life. There’s just life and how you decide to live it.

To help her raise her score I’d teach her my study trick of making a list of vocabulary words and definitions, then going back (with only the words on the sheet) and force her to write in the definitions. I would tell Madison the following: Life is filled with tests and struggles and one test cannot determine the score of that test. In addition to that many students feel that taking such tests is the beginning of the end if you do bad, however there is a flipside to everything. If you put yourself in the mind frame that you can do anything then you will with the possibility that you will not succeed at your own goals. I would also let Madison know that everything else in her educational life has been well and just to set goals to do better on the next test and that she can always take the test again with hopes that the next score will indeed be higher.
I think that too many students give up based on a score sometimes obtaining the information is the best lesson learned.

Madison, darling. Cheer up. You just get a bit anxious when you take tests. I have seen you. You rush through them, not taking your time. It’s OK though because test anxiety happens to everyone. I get that completely dreaded disease too. I still believe that you are a genius. Don’t give up on yourself, buddy; it’ll be alright.

Madison, I have heard about your test scores and I think that it is very unfortunate, but also that you have no need to worry my friend. Everything else that you do has been good. You’re dedicated, and do well in everything that you do, I’m sure the test will not affect your chances. Just keep trying and that is all that you will have to do. Remember that I believe you’ll do well because you cannot fail if you really want to succeed at something. Good luck Madison, and I can’t wait to hear your reply on how you’re doing.

This shows me that anyone can be smart.

I would write to her and tell her that she is the smartest person I know. I would tell her that I believe in her and I think she just needs to take her time and study more. If she doesn’t put so much pressure on herself then it will be okay. She just needs to relax before taking these tests and needs to let her true person shine through, not the shy, worried young girl that I have seen come out in these scores. I will tell her that I am there supporting her every step of the way and that no matter what happens, I know she’s smart, and that she should too, because that is all that matters.

Hi Madison,
Don’t be discouraged as a result of one or two low test scores. You have exceptional grades, excellent writing ability, and ambition, which are all vital qualities of a good student and a good person. You cannot give up, however, because quitting is far worse than a low test score. The path to success is made by hard work and ambition, always set goals and work to achieve them. Be confident in your endeavors, work hard to attain your goals, and you will be able to overcome these minor obstacles.
Your Friend Always,
Alex

Dear Madison,
Hello my friend! I hear that you are discouraged and are beginning to look down on yourself. Do not let these small things get you down. There will be many chances in life to succeed; this just was not the time for you. Everyone has a plan, a meaning for their life, I am positive you will learn something from this experience! Remember when I failed that test in tenth grade? I cried for days and ate only ice cream, but my world did not end. I am sorry that you are feeling down and out, keep your head up and try again. Only quitters are failures, remember that.

Madison,
I know that it is discouraging to receive bad scores, but you are a lot smarter. Don’t let them get you down. We both know that you work hard and that you are a great student. I know where you are coming from I am not a good test taker myself. I know that it is upsetting but you have to triumph over it and prove that you are better than that. Don’t forget that if you’re really upset you can always retake them and I will help every step of the way. Call me if you need to talk.

Madison, you can still reach your dreams. Do not let low test scores lower your ambitions. Tests do not determine everything. There is no test that measures friendship, but if there were, you would score the highest. Keep tring. You never know, your test scores can only improve. Do not let this discourage you. Learn from this experience. Strive even harder the next time and I am sure you will do much better. Remember, no matter what, you still have my friendship. I will always be here for you through thick and thin.

You can do it!

Dear Madison,

You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You are very smart, and capable of higher scores on your admissions test score. All you need to do is study a little harder, and prepare yourself better physically. The night before a test, don’t do any hard work, or any other exhausting activity. Eat well, and most important of all, get plenty of sleep! Do the above and you can’t go wrong. Try again and don’t give up. You will be fine.

Dear Madison,
This test thing, not a big deal! I’m pretty sure the President of the U.S. has done horribly on a test or two himself, (remember who our president is I remind you). HAHA! Anyways, I can give you a helping hand on studying for these things anytime you want.
How many letters are in the ABC’s? There’s 26 and you know them all. Only because you’ve practiced them so many times. All it takes is practice, maybe a little jingle to help you memorize a thing or two, and you’re set.
Give me a call this weekend and we can work on our ABC’s.

And remember, you can do anything you want if you put your heart to it! Reach for your goals! Bye!

Madison,

These types of tests don’t always gauge a person’s intelligence completely. There are many factors like stress, anxiety, or distraction that can alter how you perform on such tests. You could have been feeling a lot of pressure during those times and done poorly as a result. These scores don’t indicate at all that you aren’t intelligent. You’re still brilliant, and I know it. You’ve always done well academically, and there’s no reason to believe you won’t continue. Honestly, you shouldn’t feel at all inferior. Any college would be lucky to have you. Keep up the effort. Zach

Madison you are a smart and bright person. The SAT is a test that millions of students take each month. Not everyone scores 900 to 1600.I know I didnt.I receive a 780 and I still feel real good about myself. You scored a higher score then me. You should be encouraging me. The SAT does not make you or your career. It;s just a plus into getting into a college of your choice. With your high grades and writing skills you will have no problem doing what you want in life. As long as you believe in yourself you can be whatever you want in life.

You can be recognized and noticed in more ways than just test scores; be optimistic, work hard and you will be successful.

Madison,
People often come face to face with adversity in their lives. Discouragement is a familiar one, but you should never doubt the power of your mind and always look on the positive side. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you would like them to, but there are other ways to show people your intelligence. Your class rank and course rigor are two of the many. Your test and IQ scores will not matter years from now when you are settled down with a job and family. Be optimistic, work hard and never give up; you will be successful.

Don’t ever give up on what you believe most.

I would say to Madison is that he/she never give up on their dream of going to a good college. They should not let bad test scores bring your ambition down and not want to try. Madison should keep on trying and just study harder and then that will bring up your test scores. You should not let that stop you from achieving what you want. Madison is smart in other ways and can be more ambitious about them and try new things to help keep your mind off other things. Madison you will always be successful if you just keep trying and never give up on what you believe in.

I am strong and can do anything I choose.

Dear Madison,

Madison I have always been very impressed by how smart and dedicated you are. Do not let your IQ or your college admissions test score get you down. It takes so much more than just standardized test scores to make a good student, and I think you exemplify those qualities. I think that your grades and excellent writing tell more about you than your test scores. Your hard work will make you very successful in college. Test scores are only one small piece of the puzzle, keep pressing toward your dreams and you will achieve your dreams.

Madison-
You’ve always been smart. You do well in school and you’ve got ambition. With that going for you, there is no way you should let a low test score get you down. Millions of people have been successful without ever taking an IQ test, there’s no reason you can’t be as well. Just look at Thomas Jefferson. The man had ambition and determination, like you. The little bubbles on a piece of paper have no effect on who you are or what you can do with your life, and for you there’s nothing holding that back.

Madison, I’m in the exact position you are. I did horribly on my ACT’s and when I re-took it I recieved an even lower score. But I am a firm believer that standarized tests do not accurately measure a person’s intelligence. Standardized tests don’t take into account classroom conditions, home lives, and your own individual pace of learning. Only a real person, like a teacher, can determine how smart you are by analyzing your work habits. A computer cannot determine that you are not intelligent by marking a math problem wrong. Dont worry about it, let’s go get some ice-cream.

Madison,
What do you mean you think you are dumb?! Come on, you don’t need a test to tell you you’re smart, and neither do I! I’ve read your writing, and you nearly aced that Trig test, I would have failed if you hadn’t helped me study! Don’t worry about that stupid test, it’s you who decides if you are smart or not. You are a completely capable person, and some low score on ONE TEST doesn’t change that! I know you can get into college. You and I are going to study, Mad…our brains out! 1600 next time?

An IQ score is a human measure of intelligence. How can something made by imperfect people be a perfect tool? The SAT is another human method or measurement. It cannot be a completely accurate judge of intelligence.
Good grades are not easy to attain. Writing is hard work. These skills are signs of great intelligence, not a lack of intelligence. If a little effort was put into acquiring a larger knowledge base, the scores of these tests would change dramatically. Everything depends on how well you want to do. It is your decision.

Madison there are a couple of things you can do to be smart and successful. The first thing you need to do is relax because there is no need to stress yourself out over a silly test. The second thing you need to do is get a good night’s rest before the test and have a good breakfast that morning. The final thing you need to do is be confident that you can do well on these tests and that you are smart. If you can follow these simple things you will feel confident in your abilitiies.

A test cannot define you.

Madison, you cannot always believe that these tests will determine the rest of your life. Not everyone can take a test well, and you just might be one of those people, but I know that you are much smarter than those tests say you are because I have seen you work and I have seen you get good marks. Also these test are definitely not the final word in being admitted to a college, good teacher recommendations and high school transcripts can say a lot more than any IQ or college admissions test.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it!

You may have done poorly on a few tests but that doesn’t mean that you are not an intelligent person. You have the ability to do so many things if you tried hard enough. You are very smart and do great in school, all you have to do is put your heart into working a little harder. The harder you try at getting better, the better you will get. A few test grades should not determine how you will live the rest of your life. Continue to persevere and remember that you have been given a lot of talent.

Never give up on something you are determined to get.

Dear Madison,
Life is full of ups and downs, and the best thing to do is pick yourself up every time you fall down and keep going. Not everyone in life is able to be the best at everything they do and that’s why they get help. You do well in almost everything you do, except on tests. I am here and willing to help you with your study habits and I know you can do it, too. You are an inspiration to me with everything you do and getting help makes you even greater through my eyes.

Test scores are not a reflection of someone’s true knowledge

Madison,
I too was recently in a situation similar to yours. As I was preparing for the SAT’s, I took many practice tests, scoring extremely high. However, when I took the real test, I did not score nearly as high as I would have liked to. Although this was a disappointment, I realized that it was only a number on a piece of paper, and a person’s success and knowledge cannot be determined by random questions and a score. Your knowledge expands beyond that of a test, and ten years down the road, I doubt you will even remember what your scores were on these tests. However, what you will remember is how hard you worked and how successful you have been at attaining praise from teachers, how you overcame that one awful semester of pre-calculus, and how broadening your knowledge throughout the years has really deemed you a successful person.
Your Friend,
Amy

Madison,
You are your own person. You show in your schoolwork and in other things that you do, that you are a smart person. Just because you took a test that said you are not all that smart, doesn’t mean that it is correct. Before you took that test, you didn’t care what anyone said. You knew that you could do anything you wanted to do. That score should not change that fact. You are a very smart person, and you shouldn’t let anyone or anything tell you otherwise. Think about it before you give up on yourself. It isn’t worth it.

Focus on what you do well and you will succeed.

Dear Madison,
Do not be discouraged because of low test scores. Standardized tests are merely a way for higher institutions to decrease the amount of students that they admit. In fact, I think that it would be better if you did not worry about your test scores at all. If that is all that a school is worried about then that school is not the right place for you. It is much more encouraging to be a student at a school that does not focus so heavily on test scores. So you didn’t do well on a test, so what? Life is full of tests. Focus on the things that you are able to do well and I am sure that you will be successful.

If you try your hardest, I believe you can accomplish anything you want in life.

Madison, don’t worry about those test scores, those truly don’t prove how smart you really are. I got low-test scores all the time in school and even on my ACT, but that doesn’t really matter because in school I have really good grades. Don’t let these get you down, if anything, it should make you want to strive harder and to do better, so that you can prove yourself and everyone else wrong. I think you have a lot of potential to do whatever you want in life and I wouldn’t let these scores keep you from doing those things.

Dear Madison,
I know you are disappointed at the outcome of your test results, but I’d like you to remember one thing. They are just that: test results. Doing well on a test does not dictate the sort of person you can be or even the kind of grades you can get. Your mind has gotten you this far and I would encourage you to not give up. Try your best to do better, but if you take the tests again, and end up with the same result, you have the satisfaction of knowing you have given it your best. Make good choices in life, and I guarantee that you can be smart and successful.
