If you believe it, you can achieve it!

I would tell Madison, that despite the fact that her IQ scores and college admissions test scores were low, they are a very inaccurate measure of one person’s intelligence. To give an example, I failed Algebra II miserably in high school, yet was in all Gifted and Talented classes. Failing Algebra greatly discouraged me and made me feel much less confident than I was. However, I managed to bounce back, pass Algebra II my senior year of high school. Not only did I manage to pass Algebra, but I graduated from high school in three years, and will be graduating from college in May of 2005, after only spending three years in college, quite a unique feat for someone who was told they wouldn’t be able to pass math. Life’s not all about tests, it’s about hard work, and believing in yourself!

Hey Madison-
I know your test scores have gotten you down a bit recently but I know you Madison. You are so much better and brighter then those scores came out. I know it’s discouraging but you can’t let it get you down. Who you are isn’t contingent on a few less then perfect scores on tests. It’s ok to be disappointed but the key to fixing disappointments is how you bounce back. I’ve got some score improving to do too, why don’t we buy one of those test help books and study together? We’ll come out champs.

Let your personality shine and people will sit up and listen.

Hey Madison, what’s up? I heard what’s going and I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t worry. I know how it is to feel that you are not good enough to get into the college of your choice. And I didn’t have the best test scores but I stayed positive and I made sure the colleges that I cared the most about got to know me. I made sure that my essay was very personal and I interviewed where ever I could. You are such a great girl and a fantastic writer so I know .a.ny school would be blessed to have you, if you let them see your face they will know that. You have to make them understand that .you are more then a number or a piece of paper. Have faith and you will go far. Call me if you need anymore advice.

Madison-
Test suck! What a bummer. But you know, those tests are confusing. Some of the questions are really hard. Believe me I know all to well about some low test scores. Dont let this little bump in your acedemia slow you down one bit! You are way too smart to just slow down. I know you Madison, and you are not one to quit! You have always been a driven person. Drive yourself to the top, even if a Yugo is all you have! Dont worry, life is full of rutts and this one is no different than the rest. Keep going! You’ll do great!

Madison,

I want you to realize that you are not defined by your test scores. Do not let others tell you what you can and can not achieve. You know that you have it within you to succeed at whatever you choose to do. The power of your mind is limited only by the barriers that you place in front of it. Madison, tear those barriers down! Ignore the test scores, set your heart on achieving your goals, and utilize the amazing abilities that are intrinsic to you. Success will come, but you must push your discouragement aside.

Madison,
Look at all the things that you’ve done! Those stories that you’ve written are awesome and you’re among the top of your class! Those tests really don’t matter that much. You might have to start off in some lower classes than you wanted to, but hey, I did. You know what happened? I really learned that stuff really well and was even able to use that reinforcement of meterials to tutor others taking the course - thus enabling me to pay for even higher education. Everything happens for a reason - to bless us. You just have to look into yourself to find the answer for you. You will succeed.

Madison,
I just wanted to drop a note about your IQ, and college admission test-scores. First of all, the IQ tests that are given are not tests to be acknowledged by anyone except those who give it. The American Psychology Association disregards any such tests because there is no one test in the world that can measure everyone’s intelligence.
In regards to your college admission test score, it can be raised. Retaking a test is not unheard of. Now you have an idea of what is expected of you. Every test and test-taker is different.
In conversation, and meeting your acquaintance, I know that your intelligence is that of a true scholarly student. Please do not let test-scores such as these, hold you back from climbing the ladder to success or from performing at your greatest ability.
Sincerely Yours,
Michelle Haskins

I would say to her, that it was only a test and that you need to believe in yourself that you can do. I would tell her that I have seen her work and know that she can do what ever she can put her mind to. I would tell her that you will get out what you put in, and even the smartest people in the world have to work towards what they have in life.

When you are friends with somebody you must let them know how much you believe in them so they can feel the same way.

It is actually interesting that this is the question, because one of my friends was in a similar situation. Although she had excellent grades, a long list of activities, and was an amazing person, she couldn’t get the SAT scores that she wanted/needed. Although we tried to help her and tell her that it wasn’t completely necessary for college, she was still down. It was just important that every time I saw her I would bring up the good things about her- what a great friend she was, her great grades, her athleticism, etc. After a while she started focusing on the good things and wasn’t so worried that her test scores were not up to her personal standards.

The best things in life are worth working extra hard for.

Madison,
Don’t worry about your scores too much; you know that you are a very intelligent person. Just keep trying, and you will succeed. Sometimes people have to work harder in life to achieve things so they will appreciate them more. If something happens and you do not get into your number one choice school, start small with a local community college and prove to your number one school you’ve got what they want. It might take a little effort, but in the end it will be worth it!

Tests do not necessarily measure how smart one is. Some of the smartest people are not good at taking tests. Being able to apply what you have learned into a real life situation is more important than getting a high score on a test. Granted, most college corse grades are based on test scores, but there are sources available to help with taking tests. There are computer programs, Internet sites, and tutors that can give you pointers on how to take tests better. So, there is no reason to give up, the confident and ambitious always come out on top.

The question: “If you have to start a company to pay for college, what would you do?”
In my opinion, I would start a company to pay for my tuition. However, in order to start a company, I have to have money to start a company. If I do not enough money to pay for my tuition, how can I have enough money to start a company? In addition, starting a company is not easy. It requires skills, which are some of them coming from school. In other hand, I believe education would give me more chances to a greater future. I would find ways to pay my tuition: working part-time jobs, applying for scholarship, and FAFSA.

Look forward to the future towards your success.

Madison, Look at your over all work that you have done in school. Sometimes faced with a test that holds an importatnt standing, can sometimes stress us to the point of not preforming to the best of our ability. So don’t sell yourself short and give up on your dreams that you have set before you. Just get in there and focus on the goal ahead of you, and success will be yours. Dear Madison,
My dear father once advised me, “Your intelligence quotient measures how well you perform on the intelligence quotient test - Nothing more, nothing less.” The same may be said for your college admissions exams. If you perform poorly on the test presented by a particular school, it is a sign that the school is not one best suited to your methods of functioning. Take heart, for there are many excellent schools that seek a more all-encompassing perspective of a student’s academic life.

Madison,
Don’t get down on yourself. You are a very smart person, look at what you have done in school. The IQ test you took is not a test that you are used too. First off, what you need to do is believe in yourself. If you don’t, you won’t improve. Then you need to put time and effort into studying for the test and retake it. What works best for you when you study? Try that, if it doesn’t seem to be helping try something else. Don’t give up.

A test score is not “you": the essence of what you are- articulate, motivated, empowered- cannot be distilled into a number or a scale or an index. Man is the measure, not mathematics, and it is your belief in yourself as a competent, talented individual that will ultimately guarantee your success. So don’t get down about something as trivial as a test score: tomorrow is another day and you’ve got an open road ahead.

It is obvious that Madison is a very intelligent girl, but has to work hard for the grades that she gets. I would tell Madison that test scores are not everything, they do not define who a person is, or who she is. Everyone has low scores now and then, and tests can be retaken. She just needs to make sure she stays on track and works hard, and everything will work out for her. I would also let her know, that if she ever needs help with anything, that I will help her if I can.

I would explain to her that she is not alone and that a lot of students don’t do well on those test. I would tell Madison to first calm down, relax, and to not doubt herself. I would remind her of all of her academic achievements to boost her confidence and reassure herself of her potential. I would also encourage her to take the test again, if possible. Further more, Madison should take a class session in test anxiety.

Dear Madison,
Test scores don’t show how intelligent you are; some people aren’t good at it (that’s why it’s called a skill.) Most college admission tests show how well you take tests, not how smart you are. Everyone has different skills, it’s partly what makes the world go ‘round. A great teacher told me that essays and how well we write, not tests, shows how much we know, and how smart we are. Because you’re intelligent, write well, and have good grades, I know you’ll be successful. Besides, after college, writing is a better skill to have!
Best of luck!

Failure occurs only when you give up and I know that you are not a quitter.Your low score were unexpected results and your high grades and good writing skills proves that you are capable of doing better on your next college and IQ tests. This time view your tests as a challenge you can win , do not retake your tests with a defeated mind. You are already a winner in my mind, you just have to prove it to yourself again.

As a person of sound mind, I’m telling you that scores are just scores, they do not measure your talents and skills. The IQ test supposedly measures your mental ability and intelligence, but as a multiple-choice test, it barely skims the surface and is not a true measure of a person’s abilities. College admissions scores are very broad as institutions try to place you in the proper level of courses. You are a talented, brilliant young man who has a lot going for him. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone around you; I’m sure they would feel the same.

I know that taking tests can be a very stressful situation. When a person is under a lot of stress to do good especially on something as important as the IQ test or a college admission test, a persons mind can go blank. Even though the IQ test is seen as a very important test there are many controversial issues that surround the IQ test. For instance some of the questions that are asked on the test may have been culturally biased and can not be based off of someones intelligence. I don’t really believe that the IQ test can really determine how intelligent you are, since there can be many reasons that you did not do so well for instance you may have problems in test taking. As for the low college admissions test score, colleges also look at your grades, a lot will have you write an essay to get in. If you have done good in these areas most colleges are willing to look past a bad score. Don’t worry continue doing good in school and you’ll get where you want to go!

Both of these types of tests are known to be standardized to approximate intelligence and academic ability. With high grades, good writing skills, and a strong-will to achieve, you should consider yourself a talented and achieved person. If you let these recent test results influence your ambitiousness, then you will simply be completing a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many of the questions asked are information that you probably haven’t been taught. For example, I went to natick high and received a good education, but when I was given the Mcast test I didn’t know alot of the answers. This does not mean that I am not intelligent. Many times test scores don’t enable us to show our strenghts. It is normal to feel a form of disappointment, but try not to let it slow you down. Neither of those two accomplishments can come without having a capable mind and the ability to create great things. TEst taking is only one way in which some people judge their academic achievements it is not everyones. Do not worry about the past. Don’t be discouraged, but prove your intelligence by allowing this experience to challenge you

Dear Madison,
Your intelligence is not based only on an IQ score, but also on ambition, work ethic, and a positive attitude. Intelligence is proven by how hard you work to attain your goals, more than it is by one test. Some people with high IQ scores are seen as unintelligent – if they do nothing with their abilities. You, on the other hand, are ambitious, as well as intelligent, as proven by your grades and writing abilities. So, don’t let a low IQ score discourage you, but rather let it challenge you to push forward to achieve your best.

You can do it!

Madison,

I know you are frustrated by your scores, but I’m here to tell you not to be discouraged. I know you write well, are smart and you’ve always gotten good grades. Some people get nervous when it comes to taking tests. Believe me, you are not the only one. I usually do worse on a test than what I thought I would get, but that does not stop me from trying hard to better myself. You just have to work on your problem areas and retake the test. College is tough but I know you can do it!

Madison,
I’ve noticed your discouragement about the test scores you received back. I want you to know that there’s nothing wrong with your scores. They may be lower than what you hoped for but don’t doubt yourself. I’ve seen how smart you are, how well you write, the wonderful grades you get, and your ambition to succeed. It’s the everyday accomplishments that measure our success in life. I don’t believe tests reveal our potential or future success. I know they don’t now because you are very smart and you will prove those tests wrong in everything you do.

Dear Madison,
I understand you’ve been having a rough couple of weeks with test scores that do not reflect your intelligence or potential. I just want you to know that you are an amazingly bright person. Do not let a test score determine your self worth. It is just a number, and if a college cannot see past your scores into the person that you truly are, they do not deserve to have you as their student anyway. You will go far in life as long as you keep that head up! Just remember, “Go over, go under, go around, or go through, but never give up!”

Don’t let those test scores dispirit you. The whole college admissions process is extremely stressful, and everyone’s nerves get the best of him sometimes. You could consider retaking the tests if that is possible, but in the meantime, keep believing in yourself and keep working toward your goals. You’re such a bright student, and I know you have it in you to do really great things with your life. Tests don’t mean everything, and you have the brains, heart, and ambition to really prove that. I truly believe in you, and I truly believe that you should too.

There are some tests that do not accurately reveal your competent level to excel in life. It is important to remember the passion in your heart and determine to pursue your dreams. There are also times when we’ll be set back, but the choice is left up to you to decide if you are going to keep moving forward, or if you are going to give into something you know isn’t truth. The choice is left up to you. How are you going to react? This is your life, choose wisely.

Madison, try not to be discouraged by your test results. I know that you’re bright and creative. IQ tests are subjective, and sometimes standardized tests don’t reveal a person’s true intelligence. Tests aren’t for everyone. Persistence pays off, so even though you’re feeling down right now, pursue your education despite your test results. You will always feel the way you do right now if you give up. But if you don’t give up, your discouragement will pass and you’ll go on to do great things because of the lesson you learned about persisting even when you felt discouraged.

Dear Madison,
You are amazing. Not only do you have an amazing work ethic, but you are naturally an intelligent person. Your ambitious nature will help you succeed. Aristotle said, “For one swallow does not make the summer, nor does one day; and so too one day, or a short time, does not make a man blessed or happy.” One set of scores does not define your intelligence or dictate your path. The most important thing to have in life is not numbers on a piece of paper, but a heart like yours that has dreams and the motivation to achieve them.

Life experiences are better at demonstrating intelligence than a test.

I am so proud of all of your accomplishments and know that you will always be smart and successful. Some people are not good at taking tests but that does not matter. Colleges can work around that and is life a test? No, life is not a test and a performance on a test can not show what you will achieve in life!

The research I found says that some people just better at projects and reports than they are at taking tests. I bet that if the IQ test were in another format you would have had a much higher score. Many people do not even look at results of IQ tests. I know you can prove the test results wrong and be very very successful!

Madison should be told that these scores don’t always predict a persons abilities in life. Imagine if, after being told that he was dyslexic, Albert Einstein decided to quit. A life of imagination and discovery would have been lost! All because he didn’t test well.
If this is the case with Madison, he/she should be encouraged to further his/her education, not on the basis of the lower IQ score/college admissions test, but on what he/she has already accomplished. A high GPA in high school, in view of the lower IQ, should show a college admissions board one very important fact: Madison is already successful. He/she should be proud of the efforts made and the goals that have been achieved.

Brilliant Madison,
Perhaps you are just one of those people who does not test well in a stressed environment. Many people have this problem, and I’ve even heard the Einstein was a terrible speller! I encourage you to consider your own academic experience as proof that you have what it takes to succeed. There are a number of memory tools out there to help you increase your vocabulary, and perhaps yoga or a similar meditative practice will help you to relax in a testing environment. I would be happy to help you, since I am also interested in increasing my own abilities in these areas. At any rate, standardized tests are often a terrible measure of a brilliant mind, since they are created for a generic population, and you are far from a generic being. Persevere, my friend, you will be who you want to be if you put your mind to it!

Testing is conditional and thus is dependant upon other factors besides a person’s intelligence. For example, test anxiety is a negative bi-product of test-taking and can extremely divert a person’s attention from the test material to a particular nervous habit. Besides, testing can be considered as only one of the many ways to portray personal talent. Many great, original thinkers had personal detriments which hid their talent under a faulty disguise. For example, Albert Einstein struggled with dyslexia but it did not stop him from establishing some of the most useful fundamentals of physics. So don’t let test-taking dilute your self-concept!

My lovely friend, please do not be so upset about IQ scores and test scores. Believe it or not, you are probably smarter than most of us and could write a book explaining why. If you feel so bad about those scores then why think of them at all? Those are only two tests in the hundreds that you’ve taken. You were probably nervous, which made these tests harder to take. Just because you didn’t do as good on these tests, remember that you do not have to be a professional test taker to accomplish things. Einstein… remember how he didn’t even graduate? Now thanks to him we have so much knowledge about our world and still use his inventions. Then on the other hand, the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic was built by professionals and it failed at staying afloat. Next time you take a test I know you will do good. You’re a very bright person and I trust that you will stay afloat with me on this journey of life.

Lewis Terman and David Welscher dedicated their lives to bottling up one’s mental capacity and assigning it a number, and even they did not have full confidence in their own tests. Society mistakenly wraps itself in the value of IQ and SAT numbers, giving them weight that even their own creators hadn’t intended. We forget that such exams measure only a fraction of our potential, potential that does not include creativity, practical knowledge, trade skills, or social ability. So, given a choice between “Did poorly on test” and “Does well in class", which is the better label? The choice is obvious: You know what you can do, and no one can take that away from you.

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:28 pm

by Jason Allen

My dearest friend Madison, let me tell you a story. Once upon a time it was said that the devil had a sale of all his weapons for evil. He had a display for all to see as they passed by. As time passed by a smart, confident gentleman came walking by whose eye was caught by the rather odd display. The gentleman stood there gazing upon the many items within the case and carefully noticed that each weapon had a description and a price. Among the items were the arrows of lust and adultery, the sword of lies and deceit, and the axe of pride. As the gentleman continued to gaze at the display his attention was turned to a little glass box with a lock on it. Within the box was a small wedge tattered and worn with use, but no description. The gentleman being curious discovered that the price for the wedge was much higher than the rest of the weapons. He then asked the devil why such a high price for a tattered wedge? In a rather curious and excited reply the devil stated that it was his wedge of discouragement. “I have been able to use this wedge more successfully than all my other weapons, you let me get that wedge in just a little bit and it allows me to use everything within my arsenal.”
There is only one person telling you that you are not smart Madison, don’t be another victim of the devil’s wedge!

One’s test taking abilities does not give a true measure of one’s knowledge.

Madison,
I understand your being discouraged. We all shine in different areas. Some people freeze when it comes time to take tests. It is sad that so much emphasis is placed on how well we do on tests instead of looking at the overall daily performances that we are able to achieve.
You have an excellent head on your shoulders. You will do fine in college and have lots to contribute.
There is no harm in asking for help and support. This does not make you a weak person, just one who realizes that you need assistance.

Dear Madison,

I know you’re discouraged right now. I would be too. Still, think about it. You make straight A’s. You’re the editor of the Senior Yearbook. You’ve formed three different community service clubs - and they’re all doing great! You’re an amazing person - and I’m so very glad to know you.

I know that doesn’t change the fact that your test scores weren’t what you wanted. I’ve heard about places that teach you how to take tests. You’re so good at studying, I bet with a little practice you can ace Harvard’s entrance exams!

Be Happy! You Rock! :-)

Madison, I know that you are discouraged about you IQ score and admissions test score. But as your friend I am here for support. You are very bright and intelligent. Remember when I was stuggling to pass chemistry, and you helped me study. My test grade went from a 54 to 87. I was discouraged, but I knew that it was not the end of the world. Even with this situation this is just a test of your faith and confidence in yourself. You have proven that you are smart. This trial has only come to make you stronger, and to make you work harder to achieve your goals. I know you can do this Madison, you have come too far to let one situation stop you now!!! I am for you to help you in anyway I can, because you helped me!! And besides that’s what friends are for!

It isn’t good to let a dumb test defeat her, she needs to defeat the test. Sometimes smart people have a bad test day, and last time may have been hers.

Madison,

Hi, I hope you’re feeling better. You can’t let that score stop you because you have immense potential. There is so much more to us than scores. My statistics professor told us that IQ exams are not accurate because of the way they are calculated. It’s like putting frosting on a cake. It doesn’t matter if the cake is broken to bits underneath; the frosting smoothes it all out to make it look pretty. That’s exactly what they do with the IQ exams. I know regardless of your IQ score, you are going to do well.

Madison,

Look, I don’t want you to feel that you’re in any way limited in life just because of stupid scores. If everyone based their capabilities and potential accomplishments on how high a test score is, then we’d have a lot less success out there and more fear and cowardly behavior. I want you to know that you mean a lot to me as a friend and that I believe in you and, in my opinion, that’s worth more than any test score. You are an intelligent and hard-working person, and I know that you’ll achieve any goal you set for yourself.

A test does not determine your future

You can’t measure intelligence simply based upon one test. An IQ test doesn’t measure your potential and it doesn’t predict your future. College admissions test don’t look at the “whole” you. They only take into account your academic background. Maybe that day was not your day for testing; you were a little off. You are intelligent and highly capable of becoming whatever you want in life. Don’t let these “test scores” make you feel incapable of accomplishing the goals you have set for yourself. Your destiny is in your hands.

Madison, I would like you to rethink your ambivalent thoughts concerning your IQ score and low college admissions test score. Some people are not great at taking tests under pressure. Thus, achievement tests do not always depict your ability to work hard and get respectable grades in college. Madison, we have been friends for a long time and I know that you are not the best at taking tests under pressure, but you are the best at being a friend. I hope you would say the same about me because I think honesty will lead us in the right direction.

Hey, I heard about your test score and I’m sorry you didn’t do as well as you hoped. You shouldn’t get discouraged though because your grades and work ethic show that you are so much more. One test does not measure anything about a person. You know deep down that you are a more intelligent person than what the test score says you are. After everything you have done to get where you are and the bright future you have ahead of you just shows that you are meant to be something special in life, so never give up.

You can’t let a test score get you down. Everyone knows that you have everything going for you, and they know better than an automated testing facility! I am sure you will find a way to get your scores to match your skills.

You cannot measure a person’s intelligence with a test. These tests for college are just to place you in classes and nothing else. I know you a very smart and maybe you were just nervous, I definitely think you should try taking it again. Just be calm and remember it’s not a big deal. I first remind Madison of all the achievements she has made. Then go on to explain to her one simple test can not determine how smart you actually are. Not one person is skilled in everything; there are times when one fails at one thing only to succeed another. People can be smart in different ways. Look at autistic people, who have a hard time communicating and doing the normal everyday things that we find quite simple; yet most of them are prodigies and can do extraordinaries things one can only wish to be able to do. Another example is Albert Einstein. When we think of genius, he is probably the first person that pops in our head. Did you know though that he failed most of his classes in school and even failed his entrance exam into a technical college he planned on attending. It is okay to do bad in some things, but as long as you know you can succeed in another you are on the right track. As long as you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything.

You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Everyone has a hard time once and a while. You must remember that you have always succeeded in whatever you have put your mind to in the past. Take this score as a learning experience, and realize that perfection is impossible, but leaves room to grow and get better. One bad test does not say anything about your intelligence. You will do great at anything you put your mind to.

Hey Madison!
You have a big year ahead of you! Choosing a college, possibly moving, meeting new friends, and making some very big life decisions. I greatly encourage you not to get discouraged about your test scores. You are an amazingly smart person and several aspects of your life reflect that. Though test scores unfortunately are important for college admission, even the board admitting you knows that intelligence is not accurately meseared by a standardized test. A lot of times these tests measure test-taking abilities instead of the knowledge inside your head. Colleges look for all-around students not just the brains that are glued to the books. Your great personality and achievements in every other area of your life will definitely shine through. So go for it girl, don’t let your confidence or ambition be hidden, let it shine through. Whether it be in your essays or in interviews, let them know what you are capable of and don’t let the test score limit or label you. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help out. I’m here to talk anytime!

A test score does not determine how intelligent you are. A test score simply gives schools and society an objective way to compare similar resumes of applicants. Anyone, including you, can look at your grades and writing sample and immediately know that you are a very intelligent girl. Schools know this, which is why they look at numerous attributes besides your test score. You are your own harshest critic, and you will find that others won’t judge you by a test but rather by your strong ambition and obvious intelligence. Don’t let a test score define you. Let your past and your choices define who you are.

Dear Madison,

I know that test are not your strong point. I do not know why colleges make us take test to prove that we can get through school. If colleges would just look at how we perform in college and not on test then maybe everything will be okay. Grades in college are what gets people to graduate, a test is just a test and once you pass it, it really has nothing to do with whether you are smart or not. Just remember that you need to hold your head up high and do the best you can on the test and I know as well as you do that you can achieve high grades in college.

There is more to learning than taking tests. Don’t limit yourself to A & B answers. The most valuable thing you will learn in college is who you are and what you can achieve. The lessons you learn will far outweigh what even the best teacher could teach you. What if everyone had given up because they failed a time or two? We would have no light bulb, no E=MC squared, just to name a few. Look beyond what is in front of you and create your own path. There are no limits on learning.

Madison, You were telling me about your test scores the other day. If I know you like I think I do, you are probably discouraged. Don’t let a few tests scores keep you from being all you can be. You are bright and ambitious. You have alot of potential. Please don’t let these scores determine your future. God determines your future. He knows what you can and cannot do. He knows the direction He would have you go. These tests were man-made and cannot accurately decide what kind of person you are or who you will become. You can choose to listen to the God who predestined you and wants you to succeed. These tests compare you with all mankind. You cannot compare. God has made you special. Has given you special gifts and qualities. Tests are not a sure, accurate way of determining your future or the things you will be able to accomplish. You make the choice. Keep dreaming and keep pursuing the things that God would have you one step at a time. If you don’t get into the college you wanted to, don’t take it to heart. Just keep trying to pursue going to college; whether it’s this one or not. There’s so much to learn out in the real world. You will never stop learning. Don’t give up though. Don’t doubt who God has created you to be. You may not be the valedictorian of your class or the top of your college class. You are who God created you to be. So keep trying to do your best.

Without challenges and complications, our existence would be boring. Please continue to do your best. Take the admission test again, and I am confident that you will do much, much better.

First off, they’re standardized tests, which show how good of a test-taker you are and not what you really know for the most part. You’re one of the smartest people I know and colleges will accepted you regardless of those scores, just show them how well you shine even with flaws. Just don’t feel defeated, you can always take them again and I’ll help you study if you want. We’ll make it fun ok? We’ll show those tests who’s boss! Feel better ok…

Colleges like to look at the overall package, so to speak, of the applicants to their institution. High admission scores are nice, but they are not the only qualifying factors for getting into a good university, and colleges do not look at IQ scores. Madison has high grades which counts for much, and if she performed any extra-curricular activities that would also look good on an application. Additionally, Madison’s writing skills will come in useful when writing the college application essay. Madison has a lot going for her and should not be discouraged. She fills the whole package out nicely.

The tests were designed a long time ago and actually many schools don’t even look at the scores any more. I would encourage Madison to continue to achieve the high marks that they have been throughout their high school career because it is still important to do well. I would suggest calling admissions and make an appointment with the admissions counselor, they would be impressed by the initiative taken and it would give the school another chance to look at Madison’s accomplishments.

Colleges don’t concentrate on one aspect they look at the overall picture. You need to restore the confidence I’ve always known you to have or you’ll become trapped in you’r own feelings of not being good enough. I would also explain to her that some people do have trouble taking tests, but that doesn’t mean that they are not capable of doing anything. I would also help her understand that there are many people in the world who are smart, but they too have problems with taking tests. I would encourage her to have someone help her with taking tests, and then study and take the test again. Also keep your head up, because as long as you think you are smart and bright, then nothing should stand in the way of your dreams. This setback is an opportunity to prove to yourself that you are capable of moving beyond a momentary disappointment to acheive outstanding grades, and greater accomplishments in life. Once you begin college, there will be lots of resources to draw upon if you need help with test taking or any other challenge that comes to you. Tests are just really something we do to show others that in certain standardized environments we can exhibit our knowledge. Tests, like anything else, aren’t something that you can just be good at. It’s something that you have to practice and study for. Most of the material that is in those tests you’ve already learned through years of schooling. But the real test is how well you can remember and apply all that information. A low test score doesn’t mean that you’re dumb or that you’re average. It just means that you need to prepare for that test in a way that’s effective and different. The more creative you get with your studying skills the better you’ll do. Don’t look at one bad test score and think of it as a defeat. Use it to challenge yourself and show that one test score doesn’t define the value of yourself as a well-rounded and intelligent person.

Dear Madison,

They say that life is full of trials and tribulations, and this is true. But this doesn’t mean that life consists of examinations, because the most valuable lessons in life cannot be tested by a standardized test. Marks on an answer sheet will never illustrate the fact that you can confidently explain your views without ruling out other possibilities. That openness to life is what will make you a successful person. You do not need good luck (or even high scores on a test) to go far in life – the tools you need are ones you already possess.

Legendary coach Vince Lombardi once said “The Greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.”
Doubting the power of your mind after some frivolous test is absurd. You are still an individual destined for great things: the only way that fact would change is if you admit defeat to these silly, often inaccurate, assessments. The power to achieve incredible things lies within…you do yourself and the world a tremendous disservice by locking that power away.
I beg you not to lose your ambition. Tests are not infallible, but knowledge is.
Sincerely,
Rob

My dearest friend Madison I understand that you are upset because you did not receive the score you intended on an IQ test. That is okay to feel like you are feeling, however you are not going to feel like this forever. Let’s look at this situation closely. You and I both know that this test is something that you have taken only once. One day of 365 days that are in a year you invested into this test. Now just think of the rest of the 364 days that are left in the year and all that you have acheived academically to be where you are today. Think of how consistent you are with your grades. You receive them on a regular basis and every teacher has different standards that you have to adapt to and meet in order to receive the high grade that I know you work hard for. I know you have never settled for anything less, and I know you have had your “off” days where you got that B which isn’t what you were going for but you never gave up and you kept on doing what you knew you were capable of doing. You are a very ambitious person and have never allowed anything to “fog” your vision of your goals you have set in mind. Imagine if you had given up on dificculties the very first time things did not go as you had expected. Shall we think back to Kindergarten when you attempted to learn your abc’s? It wasn’t easy as most things are not. What if you had given up then? You were just a child but at the time whether you realized it or not,the task was a stepping-stone to get to where you are today. It taught you to perservere and never give up on yourself. Imagine if Einstein had given up and lost confidence in himself. We would not be here with all of our great technology if he had let one disappointment ruin his life. Sometimes things do not work out the way we would like, but never underestimate the acheivements you have already done. Someone once told me that “what we have not acheived is what we have not attempted.” Don’t give up on yourself because I know that I haven’t and your family will always be there for you too.

Madison,
You shouldn’t be discouraged by your test scores. I know from experience: tests mean nothing in college. I scored a 1400 on my SATs- everyone from home thought I was a star. Even I thought I was a star. I soon learned that once at school, test scores mean nothing. After a couple bad semesters, I learned that the only way to succeed in college is to work hard and keep trying. Professors knows that students that work hard will succeed, and you will too if you stick with it and keep good grades.
Good luck,

Dear Madison,

I know you’re feeling discouraged with the results of your tests. I know it is hard when things don’t turn out the way we plan them. I just wanted to let you know, as a good friend who knows more about you than the computer that graded your tests, you are one of the most intelligent, ambitious people I have ever known. Regardless of what standardized tests say, they don’t know how dedicated you are to the things you do. Always keep your goals and dreams ahead of you and I have no doubt you will fulfill them.

Two test scores will never define who you are and don’t reflect all that you have done. Always remember that you are in complete control of your destiny. You are a strong, intelligent women and you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to. Keep your spirits high and never give up. You are worth it.

When I took the SAT, I was upset by the results. I thought I had done all I could to get a good score, but when it came down to it, I was not going to get the scholarships I wanted. I knew it wasn’t that I wasn’t smart; I just didn’t know where to look for help. It wasn’t how smart I was that helped me do better the next time, it was the confidence I had from working hard and finding the right help. If you try hard and look for good help, there’s nothing you cannot do.

Your ambition has been an inspiration to me, so you can’t give up now. Always believe in yourself and remember; The sky’s the limit; if you set your sights that low. I would first talk to Madison, regarding the results of the low IQ score and ask if the results for Madison had a true and real effect on how he/she is able to compete in an academic environment. I would then challenge him/her to get past the low score. His/Her obvious academic achievements are more than enough to build on. I would then encourage him/her to continue to maintain those high standards and look for opportunities to bring those talents to focus on any task that he/she wanted to undertake.

Madison, the first thing you should know is that IQ and admissions tests don’t necessarily reflect how intelligent you are. Tests make some people nervous and so they don’t perform up to their potential. Besides, never let someone else or some test tell you how smart you are. Not even me. You should believe in yourself and never let anything stop you from doing what you want to do in life. I know you; you’re a very capable person and whatever your goal is in life, you should work hard to achieve it, even if it means taking a different path than the one you intended.

Oh Madison, you silly bean. I know you’re a night owl. The reason you did poorly on your test is because you stayed up all night long studying to vent your test anxiety instead of resting your brain to prepare for your admissions test! You are so extremely intelligent, I know this for a fact and I know you do too. Take a deep breath, and admit how intelligent and self-confident you are. Visualize walking up the stairs to your dorm room at your dream college we’ve talked about so many times. NEXT TIME AROUND, sleep at least 10 hours, eat a great breakfast and leave for the test early so you won’t be in a rush. Rely on your instincts and your gut feeling for every test answer and walk in that testing center like you own that test. I know you are fully capable of getting a great score on this test. I beleive in you.

Test scores are numbers. They mean nothing. They cannot judge potential. My SAT score said that I should have a C average in college. But instead I have an A average. It proved nothing besides the fact that I do not test well.

No test can guarantee what your future holds for you. People with low scores could go on to be the next Einstein. In fact, Einstein failed math, but look at what he still accomplished! All that matters is that you believe in your self. You do not need a test to tell you how intelligent you are.

I know that you’re discouraged because of your recent test scores. I want you to know that everything will work out exactly as it should, and that you will achieve all that you have hoped to achieve.
The power, strength, intelligence, and worth of a person are not measured in tests and numbers. You have achieved greatness already, and proven in the process that you are an individual; you are your own person. You are not the “standard,” or the “average,” you are above and beyond. Know and trust yourself, and the rest will fall in place.

I hope you don’t let these low scores deter you from the great potential that you and I know you are capable of. Test scores can be misleading. A much better picture of success is your cumulative scores of the past several years. Your strengths are there. It is possible you tested on a day you weren’t feeling at your best. Everyone suffers from those once in a while. If you can believe in yourself even after a poor test, you will overcome this setback. If you give up on yourself, your doubts will multiply. So don’t give up.

Madison, as important as the SAT and IQ scores are made out to be, you simply cannot put a number on an individual’s experience or education level. The tests are not designed for individuals, they are designed for populations. Don’t feel down about low scores because in the real world, employers won’t look at a score or a GPA to make a decision, but rather your experience and commitment to the job. If they fail, they have the option of taking the test over to receive that driver’s license that they have spent their whole 16 years of life waiting for. The other option is to give up and never get something that was so easy to obtain if they would just try. Keep on ‘driving’ and you’ll reach your destination.

Their tactics of trickery and limited timing do not provide true insight into an individual’s intellectual ability. Many people, including you and me are intelligent and have great potential, but we are just not good at standardized tests. Test scores on college admissions exams and having a low IQ do not necessarily mean that you are not intelligent. There are many people out in the world that when faced with a test, don’t do well. They have test anxiety and this causes their brains to freeze or go blank. If they could show their intelligence or knowledge in a different way, instead of a test situation, the results would show that person is actually quite smart. There have been many great people in the history books that would have tested with low IQ or do poorly on tests, but actually were quite brilliant.

I know you are feeling discouraged and hopeless right now. But honestly standardized testing scores don’t always prove how intelligent you are but more important how much hard work you put into your studies. You have strived for all your grades and it has paid off in the end. But a test you took in one day does not prove years of hard work and accomplishments. You might have been nervous taking the tests, maybe you had a bad night the night before, maybe you are just not the best at standardized testing. I know I have never been able to take those test, but I had the grades to back me up, just like you do. So try not stress out, that’s not what all colleges look for, they look at high school grades and extracurricular activities and community service. If you want to do better at those tests maybe try getting a tutor to help you to succeed on the next test and and that will get you your confidence back. Try not to worry, I know you can do it. Everything will work out.

People learn and remember things in a different way. The formalized testing may not be the best way to reflect what you really are capable of. I would just keep on working the way you have been. If you really want to boost your test scores then maybe take some classes that help you look at things the way the test approaches them. Test scores aren’t everything.

Hey Madison,

You shouldn’t be doubtful let me tell you why, for all you know they could have accidently switched names and tests because you know how those stupid IQ test and college admissions tests are. There are so many people taking them that it is easy to mess something up. Not only that, but your grades are proof in themselves that you are a very smart and successful person. I would definitely not let this discourage you. You shouldn’t let something little like this stop you from being ambitious and confident. Lets go talk to a counselor at school to see what they have to see.

I have known you all of your life, and ever since the day I met you your intelligence and compassion for life have helped me through numerous obstacles. You are one of the smartest people I know. These tests only measure certain aspects of education. That score could never reflect the world of things that are in your head. Just keep pushing, you will get everything you have ever desired in life.

Don’t let anyone look down you, there’s a lot more inside than they may ever know.

Madison,
I’m sorry to hear about your low test scores, but I know that you can do better. Look at what you have accomplished in the past. You have always had great grades and you’ve done well in your classes. You also write so well, those stories you have written for class have been amazing. From our talks, I know that you have some great goals that you want to achieve and I believe that you can. God tells us that we can do all things through Him who gives us strength. And I know that He has given you His mind, He’s the one who has given you all those ideas and goals. Don’t let a test slow you down. Keep dreaming, keep believing. Never give up, there’s so much more yet to learn.

Hey Madison!
I just received your email about your college admissions test scores. I realize they’re a little lower than you had hoped for, but please don’t let this discourage you from furthering your education. College admision tests are only one thing schools look at. When they look at your GPA and read your essay, I know they’ll see what I see: a smart and talented girl who they would be lucky to have at their college.
Not only are you academically smart, but you have the heart and ambition that it takes to be a truly good student. I’ve never met anyone as determined as you, and I have no doubt that you will make it to where you want to go. I really hope you don’t let just one test score ruin your college dreams. You are way too smart to let that happen. Besides, who else would I room with in the dorms?
Let me know if you need to talk more about this, I’m always here for you.

Hey Madison,
I know you’re at a difficult stage in your life right now. It seems that nothing is occuring in your favor. Teachers and other people make it seem easy to get into a good college, but in fact it’s hard. Just because you got low test scores doesn’t mean that you are a bad student. Possibly you have a weakness for standardized test taking. I had considerable difficulty aquiring acceptable test scores to be admitted to the university of my choice. My suggestions to you are to retake the tests you did poorly on. However, you should probably take a course that will prepare you greatly for taking college entrance exams. Your grades are wonderful and words fall out of your pen that could make your mother cry. You’re a wonderful person quite capable of obtaining acceptable college entrance scores. Any college would be lucky to have you. Remember I am always here for you.

Despite the media’s portrayal that we have to fit into a tiny package in order to be successful, this is a myth. Test scores are a report of how we respond to what some people think. Few people think like the creators of College Entrance Exams. That’s why a miniscule percentage can ace them. Just because you can’t memorize what the test-makers want, doesn’t mean you can’t go far. College isn’t the only way. By standing up for yourself, having confidence, and being productive, you can make a difference in your career, family, children, friends, community, or even the world!

Madison,

It is understandable that you’ve become discouraged. Our society places a great deal of importance on “scores” and “testing.” To the people who administer these tests, these numbers signify your academic savvy, and ambition. You and I know how intelligent and ambitious you are, Madison, and you know the force of your own will, you must simply strive to educate these individuals as to your intention to excel. You can do that by making the decision to prevail now, and abiding by it against any adversity. For if you do, all seemingly insurmountable obstacles will fall away, out of your path, and your decision will become realized.

My family is poor, but I demonstrated artistic ability at an early age. I had always hoped I would go to an art school for college, but this seemed like nothing more than a fond hope, given current tuition costs. But I decided that I would go to the best college I could, at any cost, and denied the myriad nay-saying voices that told me I could not, I didn’t have the money, I should just go to a community school. Now I happily attend what many regard to be the premiere art school in America. Talent aside, I achieved my goal through sheer initiative, and so can you, and so can anyone, if they just make the simple decision to succeed. Your scores will reflect it instantly.

Madison,

If you took an aptitude test and it told you to become a farmer, would you? Of course not. No one should listen solely to what a piece of paper tells them. IQ tests measure only certain aspects of intelligence and are not always accurate. I was terrified taking my college admissions test, nerves affect performance, it happens all the time. You know in your heart that you are smart, never let anyone tell you otherwise. You have ambition and that is truly the goal to success. The smartest person in the world, without ambition and diligence, goes nowhere.

You get high grades and you write well, which illustrates a very smart and articulate young woman who has a bright future ahead of her. Although your current feelings may dampen motivation, I guarantee that a great person such as yourself has an endless amount of opportunities for success in the future. If Albert Einstein believed that his dyslexia and low-test scores determined the range of his intelligence and ability to make a difference in the world, the world would have been void of one of the greatest human minds that ever existed. A low Intelligence test score should not be taken as a definitive mirror of one’s capabilities. Knowledge accumulates as one grows, so it is essential that one continues to expand the network. The human mind knows no boundaries, and one should not allow one standardized test to damper the future. The mind is one tool that certainly has accompanied every success story. There are people such as Einstein who failed tests, but managed to produce great achievements either way. The will power to advance has to be present in order for the mind to function at its best.

I understand that you may feel discouraged about the results of your testings, but no longer should you be. I’ve spent hours, myself, pondering my “loss of knowledge", to a certain extent, but have never really managed to come to a possible explanation. Instead, I now recognize my week points and try harder to succeed. As a result, I’ve found a new sense of confidence in my work and self-esteem. I believe that if you truly want to be successful, all you really have to do is overcome your grief of previous experiences and show what you are really made of.

Dear Madison,
I know that a low test score can be discouraging. Believe me, I’ve been disappointed in my test results many times in the past. However, there are a number of factors that could have influenced your performance on that particular day. Maybe you were unprepared or simply nervous about the idea of test taking. Test anxiety plays a tremendous part when otherwise intelligent people score below their potential.
Next time try to prepare yourself a little more thoroughly and I’m sure you will be pleased with your results. You are a very bright individual and will do fine.

What I find that helps me, daily positive affirmations such as, “I will do well on my test.” When self-doubt starts to trickle in, immediately defuse this by confirming to yourself what you know “to be” instead of the person you know you are not. Reflect on all the achievements, accomplishments and what has gotten you here.
You will be amazed how powerful positive thoughts bring positive resultes. Determination! What the mind of a person can conceive and believe, will achieve!

Many of them have gotten better reading grades because of you. You are such an inspiration to so many people, myself included. I don’t think an IQ test can really tell you that you are smart. You were probably just having a bad day. Remember, when I got that really bad grade on my history final. It was because I was having a bad day and I couldn’t concentrate. I think you should continue what you have planned regardless of what some test said.

Everything that a person needs to be successful is already inside them. An IQ test proves nothing! What if you would have scored high on the test? Does that make you smarter? No (taking the test didn’t teach you anything) Does it make you a more driven person? Does it make you want to be successful any more than you already were? Of course not. The only thing it gives you is a false confidence that you should already have. Forget stupid tests and start focusing on what is really important. The most vital thing in any kind of career as well as in life in general is understanding that there’s a part inside you that doesn’t care what anyone says because it has the ability to do ANYTHING. That little part inside you wants you to believe in it and let it show you that it has the power to overcome anything. That little part inside you is all anyone needs. And what you will soon find out is that that little part inside you is the true YOU believing in yourself.

I would encourage Madison to continue doing her best and working hard even though she thinks her test scores are low. Colleges do not only single out test scores in their evaluation of college applicants. Colleges look at grades as well as extracurricular activities. If Madison continues to work hard, she will be able to “wow” the college board. And she could even start out at a smaller technical college, do her best and then transfer to a bigger university. She is obviously very intelligent and has the capability to do anything she sets her mind too.

No single measurement of your intelligence, be it SAT score, GPA, IQ test, or the evaluation of a friend, can provide a whole picture. Believe in yourself, not in your test score. Consider your entire performance and your entire being: you are an intelligent person and you need only believe in that. Edgar Allan Poe said, “Convinced myself, I seek not to convince.” Follow his example and believe in yourself rather than striving to make others believe in you. Confidence is more valuable than intelligence, because you can always educate yourself, but without being sure of your knowledge, you cannot use it.

First and foremost, you need to know that low test scores are not the end of the world. Both the IQ test and standardized test scores are not marks of knowledge. Remember, it is not what college you go to, but what you choose to do with the information itself. Many smart and successful people have not received the highest marks or attained the highest IQ rating; yet consider themselves to be successful and quite knowledgeable. Remember, these tests just test just only a small portion of the knowledge that you receive and will receive throughout your lifetime. Good Luck.

I am just saying that you just need to study more, and keep trying, don’t ever give up. The SAT and ACT are not really that hard if you just pace yourself. Don’t stress about studying because that will not help you at all. Madison you have to really sit down and think where do you want to be in the future? What goal do you want to accomplish? If you do that and just focus on what you want to do you can do it. I hope my advice helps you in the near future. Remember you can do anything you set your mind to.

You know that you are a very intelligent and ambitious individual. Sometimes people get freaked out by the thought of a test or exam and they tend to not perform as well as their potential should allow. This does not mean that you should give up. It just simply means that you should try again. Also with regards to the IQ score, I hope that you realize that a lot of the time those scores aren’t even representative of one’s actual intelligence. It is simply a statistical reading, so I definitely would not worry about that one too much.

An IQ test and a college admissions test only test your test-taking abilities, and not really your academic intelligence. Did those two tests have questions on all that you’ve learned throughout your whole life? No way! Therefore, there might be some subjects you excel at, and others that you do mediocre on. Not to worry, though, because everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Do you think Tom Cruise, one of the most influential actors in Hollywood, was good at everything? Not at all! He didn’t even graduate from high school! That is not to say you shouldn’t go on in school, because education is important, but just know that no one is perfect and that you just have to find your niche at what you do best.

Test scores are usually designed to measure a person’s current intelligence, but tests of this kind don’t take into account our ability to learn. The most interesting thing about our minds is that there are 250,000 new neurons created per minute. What this means is that each neuron makes a connection to another neuron when we are exposed to a new experience or things that we learn in greater depth. I know you to be someone who is disciplined, who writes skillfully, who is more than just “book smart”, and who has the will to excel in those things that involve your heart. Please don’t let these tests change the person I know you to be. Continue on, as before, and show the numbers who Madison really is!

Madison,

We have known each other for some time and you have always been someone that others can look up to. You write beautifully, you are always excited about learning and sharing the information with others, and you have always achieved outstanding grades in school that most people would die for. I do know for a fact that everyone learns differently. Some people excel on tests, in class, math, reading, art, music. The list is endless. Don’t ever let one incident in your life discourage you from trying again or believing in yourself. I believe in you.

Love,
Michelle

madison, I know that you are discouraged by your test scores, but you can’t let that stop you from pursuing your college plans. We both know how well you have done in school, your amazing ability to write and how intelligent you are. The test may have been intimidating for you or you may have just been experiencing test anxiety. I truly hope that you will try to take the tests again soon. I will help you prepare any way you need me to. I hope that you won’t let this affect the way you feel about yourself and your abilities. You are truly an intelligent woman and I believe in you.

Sometimes people are not good test takers. This has nothing to do with your ability or with how smart you are. Tests are nerve-racking and scary, many people bomb the first time around. Don’t let that discourage you. You’re intelligent and quick-witted. All you have to do is relax and try again. Maybe try a practice test before you take another major test, just to get used to how they feel. Sometimes the pressure to succeed causes people to panic and then their mind goes blank. It happens to everyone at one time or another.

The tests don’t measure your smartness. Keep your head up and press on.

Madison,
You know as well as I do that an IQ test means nothing about you overall. All it measures is how you stood up to their particular questions that they chose. Forget that. As far as your college entrance test goes, maybe that isn’t the right college for you. I’m sure that everything will work out for you. Just keep trying and look around at some other colleges in the meantime. I will be here if you need to talk to someone. Just remember, you are smart and you’ll make it no matter what.

Even though test scores can be an indicator of how a person will do in college, it is not the only factor that determines success. Studies have shown that test anxiety has a lot to do with how well some people’s potential will reflect on paper. If a person is ambitious and motivated to do well, that is 90% of success already. I had a sister who scored a 14 on the ACT and then an 11 the second time. The college let her in on a probationary basis and she made the deans list several semesters in a row.

College is so much more than I imagined.

Madison, college is more than classes, grades, and especially an IQ score. I know that there can be a lot of pressure to do perfect at times, and also, sometimes people expect your undivided attention towards a particular subject. However, college is about learning how to deal with the stress, finding and teaching methods to get by with four, five, or six years of classes. Ambition is an admirable quality and not worth giving up for a couple of numbers. No matter where you go or end up, college is about the process of doing it all: making friends, making decisions, and changing yourself into a whole new person, an adult. Don’t give up, take your time, and enjoy yourself while you are young. Take care and good luck!

Madison don’t worry about some test scores, maybe you just are not good at standardized tests. I know that you are really smart and if you get good grades now you will most likely continue to get them. There are thousands of people that do badly on their college admission test but still do really well in college. IQ scores are not even used anymore. Plus an IQ score does not say how smart you are but rather how smart you would be if you did not put any effort into it. I have seen your grades you put hard work into your education a low IQ is no reason to stop. IQ is like a rubberband even if it starts out small it can be stretched. You will never know how far you can go unless you try. Two tests are no reason to give up on your future. They should make you more determined to prove them wrong. Otherwise you are just admitting defeat and you can never win if you have already given up.

One test cannot erase everything you’ve accomplished so far.

Madison,

Yo, what’s up? I just got your email. Darlin’, don’t worry about it. You graduated 5th in our high school class, and you never studied. Also, you’ve made the Dean’s list every semester since we’ve been at college. Do you know how many people work their butts off and still don’t make Dean’s list?

Forget about the IQ test. One test cannot erase everything you’ve accomplished so far. You have intelligence and a drive that cannot be squelched by this. Ask your friends, ask your professors, ask your parents. I promise you, the IQ test means nothing.

Take care darlin’, and don’t let this get you down!!

I will advise Madison that having a low IQ score doesnt mean he his not smart, confident and ambitious. I will also tell him that practice makes perfect and that he should not lose hope in passing the the IQ test and the collerge admission test. I would encourage him to study hard for the next one and make sure he takes his time in understanding all the questions so he can give the right answer in order to get a good grade.

I would assure Madison the he/she is smart and I would have them reflect on their past grades and accomplishments. I would also point out that while IQ is important it does not mean a low score puts you in a “dumb” category. I would also point out that when he/she gets into college they may have to apply themselves a little more than they had to in high school.

Hey Madison,
I know that you’re upset about the scores you received on those tests, but I don’t think you should worry about it. What really matters is that you are a strong person and very determined to do your personal best. That will get you farther in life than any test score will. As your friend, I am very confident in your abilities and I know that you have amazing potential. Please don’t let these scores get you down. Madison,
Don’t be discouraged. Think about your scores this way. Intelligence is something difficult to measure. Remember our High-School Chemistry classes? Tests are like those chemistry labs; one small change in the environment and your results are skewed. You can either base your self-worth on an assessment that is fallible or you can choose to be motivated by what you know to be true: you are intelligent and have proven yourself in the past. Don’t base the experiment on one variable. Choose to look at past results. Then the present will be more focused. Keep pressing on

Don’t let one mistake get you down.

Madison,
I know how discouraging it can be to perform poorly at something you thought you did well. It can make you reevaluate who you think you are and what dreams you can hope for. I don’t know if you were just having a bad day or something was bothering you, but I know that you are very intelligent and will be able to accomplish anything. Don’t give up, Madison. I believe in you. Don’t let one mistake get you down; just learn from what you did wrong, and you will succeed beyond your wildest dreams.

A test is a test, and that is it. You can see for yourself that you are smart–look at your grades. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you. You are an eloquent writer, you are smart and you have high ambitions. Nobody can take these things away from you. You can only go as far as your ambitions but you can fly if your ambitions are high enough. Do not look at these test scores as a definition of you. You are the same person you were before taking these tests. You will be a success.

Madi,
I just wanted to ask you a quick question about the Truss project dimensions. Professor Larrauri told me you’re the best person to ask for help, since you had the winning design last year.

I heard something!!!! (it better be a rumor) that you are “less confident” because of those results. You are the most ambitious person I know, and everybody around you notices. Tests can’t tell you how smart you are, or how far you will go. Like that new movie, there is no “perfect score” to life. There’s just life and how you decide to live it.

You pave your own road to the future, so don’t let these scores affect you.

Madison,

Please don’t worry about your IQ score and college admissions test score. You make your own future, and if you let these scores affect your attitude, you will be affecting your future as well. Your high grades in high school prove that you can succeed, and if you keep your ambition, you can be anything that you want to be. Furthermore, scientists and academics have begun to lose faith in the accuracy of IQ and standardized testing methods. I know that you will achieve great things during your lifetime.

Madison,
I know that you must be discouraged by your test scores, but try not to be. Those tests give a general idea of how people might do at college and are not an absolute truth that you should follow. Numbers on a page do not determine how successful you will be in life. It is determination and hard work that will make you successful. You have always done well at everything that you have put your mind to. Keep working hard and I know that you are going to do very well for yourself! Best of Luck!

I would first begin to explain that these things happen. There are stressors in our lives that make things complicated, but we have to remember not to dwell in the past. To help her raise her score I’d teach her my study trick of making a list of vocabulary words and definitions, then going back (with only the words on the sheet) and force her to write in the definitions. Naturally, she should be able to find her own way to remember the definition, either by singing or associating the words to things that are more on her level.

However, now I am a sophomore, and I have a 4.0 GPA! Please don’t get discouraged and don’t judge your academic talents based on these tests. My experience has made me work harder in college to prove that I am smart! Once you get into college, and make the grades that you want, you will feel more proud of yourself than you can ever imagine!

Applying to college is stressful. Because you are a great student people expect a lot from you. Madison, you are smart and ambitious. You are a bright girl who is capable of achieving any goal you set before yourself. However, you do not have to do something just because it is what is expected of you. Especially, if that is not what you want. In order to be successful you have to endeavor in something that you find rewarding and truly want. Focus in on what Madison wants to do after high school and the rest will seem only natural.

Use your talents and intelligence to improve your scores. Maybe you were having a bad day. Your grades show that you’re intelligent. Anyone can see how outstanding a student and person you are. Don’t let these scores be the end. Think of them as bump in the road. Even though they may be rough at the time, they’re specs on the road. Don’t worry! You’re on the right track!

They’re able to ace any academic test you put in front of them but as soon as they’re required to use common sense in the ‘world’ test they bomb out. Stay in there–prove the tests wrong–ace life.

Many times you cannot judge your intelligence by a mere test score. Although it may be somewhat of an indication of your intelligence, many times people do poorly on tests because they get nervous. Don’t judge your intelligence and potential on this score. You know that you can do so much more and are capable of achieveing everything if you put your mind to it. Don’t get discouraged becuase of this, in fact work hard to be able to show others that you can be so much more.

If my friend was feeling low there are many things that I would tell them. I would tell Madison the following: Life is filled with tests and struggles and one test cannot determine the score of that test. In addition to that many students feel that taking such tests is the beginning of the end if you do bad, however there is a flipside to everything. If you put yourself in the mind frame that you can do anything then you will with the possibility that you will not succeed at your own goals. I would also let Madison know that everything else in her educational life has been well and just to set goals to do better on the next test and that she can always take the test again with hopes that the next score will indeed be higher.
I think that too many students give up based on a score sometimes obtaining the information is the best lesson learned.

If you believe in yourself YOU can accomplish anything you put your mind to.

You know I believe in you and although the test scores are telling you something different, you are one of the smartest people I know and I have learned a few things from you myself. Hopefully they will look at your grades and see how intelligent you are, so keep your spirit up.

I would encourage Madison by reminding him/her that no one knows you better than you. Regardless of your scores on a couple of “tests", you have to realize most tests are designed to put everyone in the same category and place everyone at the same IQ levels regardless of other background factors. You know the level of your abilities and should continue to strive to be the best you can be. Your ability to believe in yourself will ultimately be conveyed through your persistence, ambitions and confidence. Continue with your goals and step over the things that appear to be roadblocks and you will be successful in life.

Madison, you should realize by now how intelligent you are. A number means nothing! Your grades and your teachers/parents’ praise are a testament to your level of intelligence. So what if you didn’t score well on your IQ and college admissions tests. That just shows that you might not be a good test taker and that you stress out when it’s time to take a test. Using that information ask yourself why do you stress out over tests and how can you ease that stress. Take those grades in stride and don’t lower your ambitions just because of a number!

Madison, scores are just scores, and more importantly IQ scores aren’t always accurate. In life we can’t let mere numbers decide our fate because in the beginning we didn’t have to take a test to earn life. You have to learn how to accept defeat in order to have even more desire to accomplish your one or many goals. Defeat and Loss are part of the game of life, and it’s what makes us stronger to overcome the “impossible”. Don’t take it too personal since the most important thing about tests, is what you learn from them- which lasts forever.

Madison, tests are run by computers and people who do not know how strong of a person you are inside. I know you are a very intelligent person and will succeed in any college you attend. Tests are not always the best measures of an individual. Later on, people won’t be looking at what you scored on your entrance exam; they will be more concerned with how you performed once you got in. If anything, once you get to college you can prove to them just how much you can achieve when you set your mind to it.
